Video Interviews

The Election Committee is pleased to offer video interviews with each of our three final candidates for the 12th Bishop of Springfield. These interviews took place over the course of the final week of October, with a set of questions from the Election Committee based on feedback from the listening sessions and online forms.

Many thanks to Jim Meadows (Emmanuel, Champaign) for hosting the interviews and to our three candidates for offering their time and candor.

Each candidate was asked the following questions which were not shared in advance:

1. Why do you believe the Holy Spirit may be calling you to serve as the 12th Bishop of Springfield?

2. Please tell us about your own spiritual disciplines and prayer life.  How have they helped you come to believe the Holy Spirit may be calling you to serve as the 12th Bishop of Springfield?

3. What have you done to unite diverse groups of people to do the work of Jesus?

4. What have you done to address violence, racism, poverty, sexism, exclusion, and other societal evils that the Church of Jesus Christ is called to meet?

5. What measures have you taken (inside and outside the church) to foster the spiritual formation of the followers of Jesus for whom you are responsible?

6. Please describe a leadership initiative that did not go well.  How did you deal with the aftermath?

7. What have you done to bring new people into the fellowship of Jesus’ believers?

8. Is there anything further you would like to share that demonstrates your efforts to build the Church of Jesus Christ?
