22-C 1. GRANTING SEAT AND VOICE TO GUESTS OF THE SYNOD

WHEREAS, The Rev. Marisa Crofts who are currently licensed to officiate in the Diocese of Springfield, are attending this Synod; and

WHEREAS, By virtue of their ministries of service in Christ’s Church, these persons honor us with their presence and enrich us by their witness; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Springfield extend to The Rev. Marisa Crofts a warm welcome with seat and voice in the deliberations of this Synod.

22-C 2. WELCOME TO NEW CLERGY

WHEREAS, The Rev. Dr. David R. Knox was ordained a priest on October 18, 2021, The Rev. Mark W. Ohlemeier was received from the Diocese of Western Missouri on February 7, 2022, the Rev. Dr. Gregory D. Wilde was received from the Diocese of Central Florida on March 14, 2022, The Rev. Dante Anglin was ordained a deacon on March 19, 2022 and a priest on September 29, 2022, The Rev. Michael Clark was ordained a deacon on March 19, 2022 and a priest on October 18, 2022, The Rev. Marisa D. Crofts was ordained a deacon on October 23, 2021 and a priest on April 25, 2022 in the Diocese of Dallas which took place in this diocese and is licensed in the Diocese of Springfield, The Rev. Thomas Reeves was received from the Anglican Church of North America on July 14, 2022, The Rev. Robert Armidon was ordained a deacon on June 11, 2022 and the Rev. Jonathan Butcher was ordained a deacon on June 11, 2022; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Springfield extend a warm welcome and assurance of prayers and support to these shepherds and servants as they begin their ministry among us.

22-C 3. COMPANION RELATIONSHIP – Tabora

WHEREAS, We are blessed in our mission and ministry by our companion relationship with the Diocese of Tabora, its Bishop the Rev. Dr. Elias Chakupewa, and its people; and

WHEREAS, We rejoice in the opportunities this relationship affords in strengthening our knowledge of the breadth of the Anglican Communion and the richness of its witness to Jesus Christ; and

WHEREAS, We are enriched as a Diocese by the friendships between parishes and people that have resulted from this companion relationship; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Springfield send the warm greetings of the clergy and people of this Diocese to the clergy and people of the Diocese of Tabora, expressing to them our thanks for all that has occurred since the institution of this relationship.

22-C 4. COMPANION RELATIONSHIP – Peru

WHEREAS, We are blessed in our mission and ministry by our companion relationship with the Diocese of Peru, its Diocesan Bishop Jorge Aguilar, and its people; and

WHEREAS, We rejoice in the opportunities this relationship affords in strengthening our knowledge of the breadth of the Anglican Communion and the richness of its witness to Jesus Christ; and

WHEREAS, We are enriched as a Diocese by the friendships between parishes and people that have resulted from this companion relationship; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Springfield send the warm greetings of the clergy and people of this Diocese to the clergy and people of the Diocese of Peru, expressing to them our thanks for all that has occurred since the institution of this relationship.

22 -C 5. GREETINGS TO RETIRED BISHOPS

WHEREAS, the Rt. Rev. Daniel H. Martins, XI Bishop of Springfield served this Diocese during his episcopate; and

WHEREAS, This retired chief pastor continues to labor for the cause of Christ and His Church in areas outside the boundaries of this Diocese; and

WHEREAS, This shepherd is remembered by the people who benefited from his ministry and his response to God’s call; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Springfield extend warm greetings, best wishes and assurance of continuing prayers to the Rt. Rev. Daniel H. Martins, retired bishop of this Diocese.

22-C 6. CLERGY WHO HAVE LEFT A DIOCESAN CURE

WHEREAS, The Rev. John A. Thorpe served as a priest licensed in this Diocese and is now in the Diocese of Oklahoma, The Rev. Benjamin D. Hankinson, Jr. who served as priest of this Diocese and Dean of the Darrow Deanery and now serves at Nashotah House Seminary; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Springfield wish these shepherds and servants Godspeed in their new endeavors and extend to them the assurance of our prayers for them, their family and their continuing work in Christ’s ministry.

22-C 7. THANK YOU FOR SERVICE TO THE DIOCESE

WHEREAS, The Rev. John R. Henry has served faithfully as the Assistant Secretary of the Diocese; and

WHEREAS, Rod Matthews has served with dedication as the Treasurer of the Diocese and a member of Diocesan Council; and

WHEREAS, The Rev. Benjamin D. Hankinson, Jr. has served with dedication as a member of and President of The Standing Committee and as a member of the Diocesan Council; and

WHEREAS, Helen Williams has served with dedication as a member of The Standing Committee; and

WHEREAS, The Rev. John R. Henry has served faithfully as the member of the Board of Episcopal Church Camp of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Rod Matthews has served with dedication as a co-chair of The Election Committee; and

WHEREAS, The Very Rev. Zachary D. Brooks, Mary Ann Denney, Jan Goossens, William Jackson, James Keith, Don Kensell, Roy Laws, Charlie Rice, Fredna Scroggins, Norman Taylor, Bill Techau, Kelley Wegeng and The Rev. David L. Wells served as members of the Election Committee; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Babb has served with dedication as a chair of The Transition Committee; and

WHEREAS, The Rev. Christopher Ashmore, Len Harris, Erin McCrary, and Claire Ribelin, served as members of the Transition Committee; and

WHEREAS, The Rev. Dr. Thomas W. Langford has served with dedication as the Chair of The Audit Department; and

WHEREAS, Randy Winn has served with dedication as a member of the Trustees; and

WHEREAS, The Rev. Cynthia A. Sever, and The Rev. David L. Wells have served faithfully as members of Diocesan Council; and

WHEREAS, Dana Harris and Richard Tribe have served faithfully as Deanery Representatives and members of Diocesan Council; and

WHEREAS, William Jackson, The Rev. John R. Henry and Katy Cave have served faithfully as members of the Commission on Ministry; and

WHEREAS, The Rev. Benjamin D. Hankinson, Jr. has served with dedication as the Youth Department Coordinator; and

WHEREAS, Kevin Babb has served faithfully as a Provincial Synod Delegate; and

WHEREAS, Tracy Adams served as a member of the Episcopal Diocese of Cursillo Secretariat and Erin McCrary has served faithfully as the Lay Director of the Episcopal Diocese of Cursillo Secretariat for 5 years; and

WHEREAS, Rod Matthews has served faithfully as a member of the Department of Finance; and

WHEREAS, The Very Dr. Thomas W. Langford, The Rev. Donald E. Coventry and Keith Gehrand served faithfully as members of the Disciplinary Board; and

WHEREAS Hannah Dallman served faithfully as Communications Coordinator and with great dedication, and creativity successfully communicated the story of the Diocese of Springfield to all of its members and to the larger community with professionalism, class and devotion; and

WHEREAS, Mark Dirksen served faithfully as Interim Diocesan Administrator, attending to the interests and needs of Clergy, lay people, and all the Eucharistic Communities during a period of great change and helped to facilitate the successful election, ordination and consecration of the XIIth Bishop of Springfield; and

WHEREAS, The Rt. Rev. Paul E. Lambert served faithfully as Assistant Bishop during the transition between Diocesan Bishops, provided advice and counsel, provided pastoral leadership to the clergy and lay people of the Diocese with kind leadership and humor; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Springfield recognize these faithful servants and express thanks for their ministry among us.

22-C 8. THANK YOU TO THE SYNOD HOST CONGREGATION

WHEREAS, Christian hospitality has been so warmly and graciously extended to the members of this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod by the congregation of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul the Apostle; and

WHEREAS, Their preparations to receive us have facilitated our work, enhanced our times of worship and fellowship and nourished our sense of community as a Synod and as a Diocese; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Springfield express its sincere thanks to the congregations and clergy of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, and especially to the all those whose work contributed to the success of this gathering.

22-C 9. CLERGY WHO HAVE DIED

WHEREAS, The Rev. Paul R. Dicks served this Diocese as a Priest and died on February 7, 2022, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Springfield rise in silence and remember this servant who has joined the Church Triumphant with prayer.

22-C 10. THANK YOU FOR MINISTRY

WHEREAS, The Rev. Sylvia L. Howard retired from active ministry as a deacon of this Diocese where she served faithfully for 15 years at St. John’s in Centralia and for many years as the Assistant Secretary of the Diocese and in many other capacities during her years of active ministry in this diocese and

WHEREAS, The Rt. Rev. Anthony F. Clavier has retired to Wales who served faithfully as a priest of this Diocese for 10 years and served as Dean of the Darrow Deanery and served as Spiritual Director for clergy in the ordination process and in many other capacities during his service in this Diocese; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Springfield honor and express our appreciation for their ministry among us by rising to a standing ovation.

22-C 11. THANK YOU TO THE REV. BETH MAYNARD FOR MINISTRY

WHEREAS, The Rev. Beth Maynard has served this diocese faithfully for more than 8 years as the Rector of Emmanuel Memorial in Champaign, and

WHEREAS, Mother Beth served as a member and President of the Standing Committee of this Diocese, on Diocesan Council and as a Dean, and

WHEREAS, Mother Beth is shortly to lay down all these duties for the sake of a well-earned retirement and a move to Massachusetts with her husband, Mark, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this One Hundred Forty Fifth Synod of the Diocese of Springfield honor Mother Beth’s witness and ministry among us and extend to her the assurance of our prayers for her and her husband, in their continuing work in Christ’s ministry by rising to a standing ovation.
