Dear friends in Christ,

The Standing Committee is pleased to announce that sufficient consents have been received to the election and consecration of the Very Rev. Brian K. Burgess as the 12th Bishop of Springfield. We have received confirmation from the Presiding Bishop’s office, a notice of which may be found here.

We believe that our process has brought together those whom God has called into the next season of shared ministry as the bishop, clergy, and people of the Diocese of Springfield. Today marks a significant step in that direction as the wider Episcopal Church affirms the work of discernment for which we have prayed and labored together.

We invite continued prayers for our Bishop Elect and his family as they make the transition to be with us. And we look forward to celebrating with them and all of you when we gather together on May 21, 2022, for the consecration of our new bishop.

In Christ,

The Rev. Benjamin D. Hankinson, Jr.
Standing Committee President

✠ ✠ ✠

From all that dwell below the skies let the Creator’s praise arise!
Let the Redeemer’s Name be sung through every land, by every tongue!

Eternal are thy mercies, Lord, and truth eternal is thy word:
thy praise shall sound from shore to shore till suns shall rise and set no more.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Dear Beloved of Christ:

It is with a full and thankful heart that I reach out today.  I include all of you in the embrace that Denise and I are experiencing in this shared moment of salvation history.  It is 12:00 Noon here at Christ Church Woodbury and the carillon rings out Hymn tunes to the glory of God and on behalf of the people He came to redeem.

This is a new day for the Diocese of Springfield, her clergy and her people.  This is the day that the Lord has made.  We will rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24).  I am most honored and humbled that the bishops exercising jurisdiction and the standing committees of the Episcopal Church have consented to my ordination and consecration as your XII Diocesan.

I thank everyone who has brought us collectively to this location of celebration and thanksgiving.  The Diocese of Springfield is special, and each congregation remains in our prayer of thanksgiving.  We look forward to being with our beloved Diocese soon.

O taste and see how gracious the Lord is!
Blessed is the man that trusteth in him.  (Psalm 34:8)

In the peace of God, which passeth all understanding;

(The Very Reverend) Fr Brian K. Burgess, Dean and Rector
Bishop-elect – The Diocese of Springfield
