National and World Missions Survey

Hello, I am Sandy Moore of Trinity Church, Lincoln. My husband, the Rev. Mark Evans, and I moved to the diocese about two years ago. We have enjoyed getting to know some of you in the diocese, and I look forward to meeting many more.

At our recent Synod, Bishop Martins appointed me as the new Chair of the Department of National and World Mission for the Diocese of Springfield. The Mission Field holds many exciting possibilities, such as national and international mission trips, missionary speakers, refugee resettlement, and monetary and prayer support for established aid programs to name a few. Many of our churches are already involved in such ventures. And, as you may know, our diocese is developing companionship diocese relationships with the Diocese of Tabora in Tanzania, and the Diocese of Peru.

One of our first steps is to gather information about the programs already in place among the congregations, and share that information with the diocese. As the saying goes, “You can’t know where you’re going till you know where you’ve been.”

I would like to hear your ideas about national and world mission. I also invite interested parties to help me form a team to explore further the opportunities to serve God in the greater world beyond our homes in Illinois.
