Consecration Musical Arrangements

Bishop-Elect Burgess has chosen excellent music for his Consecration, concentrating on Hymnody and service music to support the fullest possible involvement by the congregation. The music list appears below.

Organist Dale Rogers – Director of Music and the Arts, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Springfield. Cathedral Organist Nichol DelGiorno will be out of the country and invited Dale to play this key role. He is a long-time member of the Cathedral (though can seldom attend, because of his Sunday obligation at Westminster Presbyterian).

Brass Quartet from Millikin University – regular associates and colleagues of Dale’s at Westminster, they will add the appropriate Pomp & C.

Mark Dirksen – Consecration Music Director. Recent work at the Diocese and in the Cathedral of St. Paul plus his background in Episcopal music-making made his transition to this role as he concludes his time as Interim Diocesan Administrator logical. Mark welcomes your inquires or comments about these arrangements at 217-525-1876 (business hours only, no texts or emails please.)

Space constraints in the Cathedral chancel necessitate a choir of 24 maximum. These musicians must be joyful leaders, musically secure, and promptly responsive to direction both in rehearsal and during the liturgy. We are asking interested singers to consult with the current musician or clergy at their Eucharistic Community about their participation, then fill out the online form here to register their interest.

Voice parts will be filled to the limits above by completion of the form with consideration of the time of receipt and the singer’s Eucharistic Community at the discretion of the director. Professional singers may be hired to fill any gaps.

All singers must attend ONE (1) of the following rehearsals, and are, of course, welcome at others.
