YOUTHQUAKE 2009 EVALUATION

While on a bus returning from YouthQuake 2009 in Ridgecrest, NC, members of the diocese, both young people and adult leaders,
were asked to comment on their experiences during the weekend and how they may have found God in Christ during the weekend.

  • On my way home from YouthQuake I felt extremely homesick. My stomach was in knots and I just felt anxious. You see, I wasn’t homesick for the house that I was returning to. I was homesick for how I felt at YouthQuake. It was the same feeling I always get when I go to some sort of church “thing.” At YouthQuake I felt just one step closer to God. It’s the greatest feeling in the world to turn to the stranger next to you and see God through them. It’s amazing when a stranger tells you that you’re being prayed for. When I’m at YouthQuake I can see and feel God everywhere. When I sing during worship I can’t sing loud enough or reach my hands high enough for God. I want Him so badly it hurts. The miracle is that I have so much of him it seems impossible. And the best part is that I’m surrounded by people so filled with God, He’s spilling out of them. When I’m with these God-filled people, I finally feel . . . home.
  • Even though I’m not sure I went to the right meeting. I felt I was pulled in the meeting for a purpose. I felt enlightenment during our workshop with the ministers to look and think deeply about how each person needs to be saved from our “evils.” I came here to bring my daughter and I closer in friendship and rehash the special bond we have with Christ and the church. It’s a great feeling to have a group of people to come together for such a good purpose. Thanks to Joe and Gerry for making this a possibility to my family.
  • When I was praying with Jonathan. Also when I had a personal talk with him too. Meeting Union Ave. was AMAZING! This was way better than last year.
  • When we were praying, Jesus touched my heart.
  • The thing that changed me as an encounter with Christ was with prayer. And the thing where I saw God is when I heard “Mighty to Save” because our God is Mighty to Save!
  • My favorite part was the band, and the talks that each one gave, they touched me. Being close to people that mean a lot to me, their helping me get through my problems and troubles. Listening to Jonathan talk was inspiring. Everything that was talked about I took to heart. This was a wonderful experience for me. Saturday night was emotional but it’s what I needed. He was there comforting me. He calmed me down. It was just amazing.
  • In my life I have struggled with understanding why bad things happen to good people. At YouthQuake the comment was made that Jesus creates these situations to bring us closer to him. I am 36 yrs. old and now I have an understanding. I see an urgent need to support our youth. We, as adults, need to encourage our youth to be involved in our churches-make the time in our busy schedules.
  • Whenever we go to YouthQuake I am amazed by the people we meet, how so many people come together to worship our creator. I also love the fact that the Lord touches me each year. I feel so blessed to have a Father so connected with me.
  • YouthQuake was a great thing. This is my second time here. My favorite part was when Union Ave. came out and sang. I love their music. When I listen to it, it makes my heart sing. I also think it was great how they let you come up and let you pray with someone. It touches me. It makes me have a feeling that I have a calling in music and now I have the urge to learn how to play the guitar. I wish I could live there forever with music and God. Thanks for the experience.
  • My favorite part about YouthQuake was just having everybody being together and showing much love when we all needed it. The people, interns, and staff make YouthQuake feel just like home. My favorite part was listening to the people talk about loving God! I also loved the bands. Their lyrics touched my heart very hard. Finding God was the hardest part, but I knew I could let go and everyone would support me all the way, no matter what. Even though everyone was on an extremely low level of sleep, we all put up with whatever they were going to throw at us next. Can’t wait until next year! Remembering every memory and the fire alarm! I will cherish Jan. 15-18 forever!
  • I could see Jesus in just about everyone from their love toward God and others.
  • I felt Christ like never before when I felt called to have a man I had never before met to pray over me, then he spoke in tongues. It was the first time I had ever heard somebody speak tongues. My heart is filled with an undeniable passion for God.
  • My favorite part of YouthQuake ’09 was the sense of fellowship from knowing that everyone there had traveled from all over the country to worship together. I was really touched by the messages presented over the course of the weekend. They managed to connect scripture to applicable advice that is relevant to my life.
  • From this weekend I found Christ through pulling together of friends with a bond that allowed all of us to open up to each other from our hearts.
  • I saw God in the face and actions of all the people there, in how they spoke and in the passion of Him. In the music, games, and openness of the people there.
  • I saw God when we were dancing, singing, and having fun with Union Ave. Also when I was watching them my heart opened up more to let God in. YouthQuake rocks.
  • I saw God when we were worshiping and when the fire alarms were going off.
  • I heard God on Friday and he said 5 things to me when I was sitting on the ground!
  • The entire YouthQuake experience brought me closer to God. When we would worship with the bands, it made me feel very close.
  • I encountered God the most when Jonathan was telling us the stories. It made me understand more. My favorite part was Union Avenue. Please have them back next year.
  • I encountered God on Saturday night when everyone was praying for help together. That was truly a life changing experience. I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in the room. I have never wanted to cry so much and half the time not knowing why I’m crying. YouthQuake was a great experience and I will definitely come back next year!
  • I really don’t see God or understand him that much, but this weekend was so amazing. I love hiking and walking in the woods, so what I saw Saturday evening, hiking up to the top of the mountain with my friend Shane, was astounding. I looked around and I instantly knew nothing or anyone else could have created that sight. As soon as I actually looked around, I thought of my late uncle Larry, a photographer. He loved taking pictures (He even had a dark room in his basement). I realized how much he would have loved to be here with me taking pictures. I really wished I would have had my camera. I could have sworn I had seen his image in the distant hills. That’s how I experienced God this weekend.
  • I saw God this weekend through other people. My friends and I went up to the front and prayed and the interns who prayed over us just shined God’s love. Their prayers were God’s words flowing through them and it was like God was standing right next to me.
