The Reverend Canon Leslie E.
Wilson was born in Richmond County, Illinois in 1905. He was ordained a
deacon in 1932 and priest in 1933. He was Rector of Trinity Church,
Mattoon, until 1945, then served missions in Oklahoma and a parish in
Louisiana before returning to Illinois in 1960 as Rector of Christ Church,
Collinsville.
He retired from Christ Church in 1972 and
moved to Belleville, where he quickly became an important part of St.
George’s Parish, providing indispensable help during two clergy vacancies
and continuing to help after Father Hewitt Johnston became rector in 1976.
He was a regular celebrant at weekday Eucharist and taught an adult Sunday
School class.
His wife, Jeanette, predeceases him and
they had two children, Charles and Susan and two grandchildren, Sabrina
and Mark.
Father Wilson has spent over 30 years of
ministry at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Belleville, IL.
