On February 25th,
2006, the Diocesan Prayer Fellowship will host the 24th
annual Pausing for Prayer event from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the
Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Springfield. It will be a day filled
with the Holy Eucharist, teaching, reflection, meditation and prayer.
This
year we have another excellent speaker, the Most Reverend Gregory Venables, Primate of the Southern Cone. Archbishop Venables will offer
several meditations during the day and the homily at the Eucharist.
Originally from
England, he studied modern languages and education at Canterbury Christ
Church University College and taught English at Broadstairs. Living in
South America since 1978, he served as a missionary priest in Paraguay
and was Principal at St. Andrews College in Asuncion until 1990.
Venables returned to England for three years in parish ministry from
which he was elected bishop of Bolivia and Peru.
Archbishop Venables and his wife, Sylvia, live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he
oversees a province which stretches from the southernmost tip of South
American to Amazon jungle. Two of his grown children live and work in
Bolivia and another in Paraguay.
Registration for the
event will begin at 8:45 a.m. Coffee and donuts will be provided.
Lunch will also be served. Participants may register by phone (217)
525-1876, e-mail to
diocese@episcopalspringfield.org or mail the
form below for delivery by February 17th. Spending the day
with members of our diocesan family and Archbishop Venables will be a
wonderful way to begin your Lenten journey for 2006.
Faithfully,
