LETTER OUTLINING GUIDELINES FOR SYNOD FROM THE REVEREND DR. DESMOND FRANCIS, RECTOR OF CHRIST THE KING EPISCOPAL CHURCH, NORMAL, ILLINOIS TO SYNOD DELEGATES AND FRIENDS

7th September, 2004

Dear Synod Delegates and Friends,

Greetings and Grace to each of you.

On behalf of Christ the King Episcopal Church, we are looking forward to hosting you for our 127th Synod of the Episcopal Diocese of Springfield on Friday the 1st and Saturday the 2nd of October 2004.

Here are some general guidelines to aid us in having an effective and successful Synod.

First, Registration. Please follow through with all suggestions made earlier in my letter dated 23rd July and the memo from our Synod Secretary, The Reverend Donald R. Brown, dated August 29, 2004. Hotel reservations must be made directly with Holiday Inn, 8 Traders Circle, Normal, IL 61761, (303) 452-8300. The rate is $72.50. If you have not pre-registered, please do so now by returning your form with a check for $45.00 to: Christ the King Episcopal Church, Normal, IL 61761. For questions, please call Fr. Francis at (309) 454-4903 or email desritt@aol.com

Second, Worship and Prayer. There will be two worship opportunities during the Synod. The first is our Synod Eucharist at Christ the King Episcopal Church on Friday the 1st of October at 5:00 p.m. If you would like to be a part of the Synod Choir, please be at the Church for rehearsal at 4:15 p.m. All Clergy are requested to vest with White Stoles. Our second worship opportunity will be Morning Prayer at the Holiday Inn on Saturday the 2nd of October at 8:30 a.m. In addition, we are providing a prayer room for delegates and guests to use during the Synod. The room will be announced at the Synod. If you would like to sign up now to be a part of the prayer vigil, you may email us at desritt@aol.com. The Prayer Vigil during the Synod will begin at noon on Friday the 1st of October and go for 24 hours. We are also encouraging Parishes and Missions to have their own 24-hour prayer vigil prior to our Synod as preparation for the same.

Third, Food and Hospitality. Our Synod banquet will be on Friday the 1st of October at 7 p.m., followed by entertainment. We will serve chicken as the main entrée for everyone. If you prefer beef, or a vegetarian entrée, please email us at disritt@aol.com and let us know your preference. In addition, there will be a hospitality room (the location will be announced at the Synod) provided for all delegated and guest to use as they see fit. A cold buffet luncheon will be available for all delegated and guests at the Holiday Inn beginning at 11 a.m., on Friday 1st of October to take advantage of. The price for the buffet will be around $6.95, plus taxes.

Please know it is our sincere desire to serve you for the glory of God! Therefore, do not hesitate to let any of the greeter or ushers know how we can serve you well.

Looking forward to a great 127th Synod of the Episcopal Diocese of Springfield.

With Lots of Faith, Hope and Charity
