Necrology

The Diocese of Springfield wishes to acknowledge and memorialize those persons suggested by members of this Diocese who have died, both Clergy and Lay Persons. Names and a short obituary should be submitted to the Diocesan Office.

WILT, John N., 1st Lt, (promoted posthumously), USMC, Age 23, graduate of the US Naval Academy. Crew member aboard one of two training jets which crashed in the Gulf of Mexico, May 9, 2002, killing all seven personnel. Parents, Ann & Nels Wilt, members of St. Michael's Episcopal Church, O'Fallon, IL.

DUSENBERY, WILLIAM DAVID , Age 30, Spc. US Army, helicopter mechanic. Two helicopters collided while maneuvering from enemy fire over Mosul , Iraq , November 14, 2003. He had just been notified of acceptance for flight school. Son of Bill & Nancy Dusenbery, Fairview Heights, IL., members of St. Michael's Episcopal Church, O'Fallon, IL.

CONA+, ROBIN P., July 5, 2004, deacon in the Diocese of Springfield. Seabury-Western Seminary and Juris Doctor-University of Missouri-Kansas City .

DAVI S + . WILLIAM EDWIN, November 5, 2003, age 66. Virginia Theological Seminary, Vicar of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, Granite City, IL., and former Dean of the Darrow Deanery.

DRAPER+, CHARLES L. SSC. January 27, 2004, age 67. Honorary Canon of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul , Springfield , Illinois . General Theological Seminary. Served congregations i n West Virginia and Illinois .

HENEGHAN+, DAVID F. , February 11, 2003, age 56. Rector Episcopal Parish of Alton , IL . Seabury-Western Seminary.

+HILLESTAD, ALBERT W., Eight Bishop of Springfield, June 14, 2007 in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico at age 82. Bishop Hillestad was consecrated on February 19, 1972, retiring February 27, 1981.

HOOTEN, VICKI, July 28, 2007, wife of Joe Hooten, chair of the Department of Youth Work, died suddenly while on vacation. Vicki assisted her husband in all levels of youth work in the Diocese of Springfield.

TURNER+, WILLIAM M. , October 24, 2004, age 71. Honorary Canon of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul . Nashotah House Seminary. Had retired as Rector of Trinity Church, Lincoln.

WILSON+, LESLIE E., January 27, 2004, age 98. Honorary Canon of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul , Springfield , Illinois . University of the South (Sewanee). Served congregations in Oklahoma , Louisiana and the Diocese of Springfield . Upon retirement, Fr. Wilson was active at St. George's Episcopal Church, Belleville , Illinois .
