What is Happening?

Happening is a Christian Experience program designed for high school youth. It is one of the instruments to renew the church in the power of the Holy Spirit, that the church may respond more readily to its call to spread the Kingdom of God throughout the world. The Happening Movement believes that Jesus Christ has and continues to make a difference in the world and in individual lives especially those of our teenagers. During the weekend, participants listen to thought-provoking and challenging talks given by members of the staff (both young people and adults) and clergy. These talks are designed to assist the Happeners in having the opportunity to know God.

Who may attend Happening?

Happening is open to students of high school age. Adults interested in youth ministry may also attend. Non-Episcopalians are accepted at weekends with the knowledge and consent of their parish priest or pastor.

Where and When are the Happenings?

Normally, two Happenings take place in the diocese each year at various church venues. The Spring Happening takes place in the southern part of the diocese while the Fall Happening is in the north. The weekend begins on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. and ends on Sunday evening around 6:00 p.m. after a closing Eucharist and Pizza Party. Parents and Friends are always invited to the Closing Eucharist. All Happeners must stay the entire weekend and we cannot start without you.
