Education For Ministry is an extension of the
Programs Center of the School of Theology of the University of the South
at Sewanee, Tennessee which offers lay persons an opportunity to grow in
their faith and also grow in understanding of the kind of ministries that
they might be able to perform in the Church or the world.
Over four years the student studies Old Testament,
New Testament, Church History, and Theology in a support group context
with trained mentors as guides in the journey.
The goal of the program is informed and competent
Christian lay leaders who will make a difference in the world.
Presently, there are six groups that are currently
meeting. There are three in Metro East St. Louis, and one each in
Springfield, the Hale Deanery and Decatur. A seventh group is being formed
in the Eastern Deanery and is expected to begin meeting soon.
Participation requires serious commitment, but there
are no examinations or papers required and the benefits are wondrous.
The Co-ordinator of the program is The Very Reverend John
C. Bettmann:
