The Reverend Robert Todd Giffin was formally
received into the Episcopal Diocese of Springfield as a deacon and priest
on November 3, 2003, being the Feast of Richard Hooker by the Right
Reverend Peter H. Beckwith, Bishop of Springfield. Father Giffin will
serve as the Vicar of St. Alban’s, Olney, Illinois and St. Mary’s,
Robinson, Illinois.
Born in
Indianapolis on 23 December 1970 to Kenneth Neal Giffin of Mooresville,
Indiana and Portia Royall Conn of East Boothbay, Maine and Plandome Manor,
Long Island, New York, Father Giffin received his early education at
Culver Military Academy, Culver, Indiana, and Brebeuf Preparatory School
in Indianapolis, Indiana. He then attended Butler University in
Indianapolis, Indiana where he was granted the Bachelor of Arts degree.
He worked in state and local politics for the years immediately following
his undergraduate education, and was appointed by former Mayor, Stephen
Goldsmith of Indianapolis to serve on the Equal Opportunity Board for the
City of Indianapolis from 1996 to 1998.
The newest priest to the Diocese attended
Nashotah House Theological Seminary, in Nashotah, Wisconsin, in the fall
of 1999, and graduated with a Master’s of Divinity degree in May of 2002.
He was ordained a deacon and priest by Dom Olinto Ferreira Pinto Filho,
Primate of the Igreja Catolica Apostolica Brasileira and Ordinary of Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil.
Rev. Giffin enjoys
fishing, trap and skeet shooting, hunting, reading and genealogy. He is a
member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts,
Presidential Families of America, Naval Order of the United States, Sons
of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Sons of the Revolution, Society of the
Cincinnati, and the Maine Historical Society.
Father Giffin is
married to the former Norma Jean Bustamante of San Antonio, Texas. They
have three children - Catherine Elizabeth, Maria Christina, and William
Royall.
